The problem of this research was to identify the various face expressions of Woody and find out what is the meaning behind the face expressions of Woody in the film Toy Story 4 because most of the audience only understood the meaning of the movie characters verbally, they rarely understood the meaning behind the non-verbal expressions. Therefore, the researcher took the initiative to find out the meaning behind woodyAos face expressions in the film Toy Story the researcher formulates two research questions as follows: What kinds of face expressions are expressed by Woody in the film Toy Story 4 and What is the meaning behind WoodyAos face expressions in the film Toy Story 4? The objectives of this research are :To find out the kinds of face expressions are expressed by Woody in the film Toy Story 4 and To find out the meanings behind WoodyAos face expressions in the film Toy Story 4. In this research used descriptive qualitative. Based on the results of the research, the researcher managed to identify 48 total face expression data from 6 basic expressions by Ekman . namely surprised, scared, happy, angry, sad, and disgusted in the film Toy Story 4 which focuses on the main character. Woody. This research also makes a significant contribution to the field of semiotics by examining how visual signs . ace expression. are used to convey meaning in a film work. Pixar Animation Studios produced the film and will be released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is directed by John Lasseter, director of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and Josh Cooley is also assisted in directing The original Toy Story writing team created the story: Lasseter. As a result, not a single movie throughout the year has managed to move the audience like this movie. The movie is a great blend of drama, comedy, action, and romance. Animated films are not only loved by children, because of their entertaining and adorable nature, but it is not uncommon for adults to love animated films and even make animated films their favorite films. The research used BirdwhistellAos theory . The result of the research indicates that there are 36 types of non-verbal communication used by teachers and students at SLBN 1 Bima, which were divided into 12 total Face expressions, 3 total types of eye contact, 16 total types of body movements, 5 total types of hand sign and 0 total types of touch. They used nonverbal communication types with various types according to what is needed when interacting and different meanings. METHOD In this study, the type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. Qualitative research is a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and behaviors that can be used. By using this method, researchers will analyze the facial expressions of the main character in the film Toy Story Researchers observed the facial expressions of the main character in the movie Toy Story To collect research data, researchers used several steps. First, researchers watched the Toy Story 4 film at least five times to find out the facial expressions contained in the Toy Story 4 To analyze the data, two theories, namely the basic theory of expression and semiotics. the theory of Paul, namely the basic theory of expression and Pierce's theory which has been explained previously in the theoretical framework. The stages of data analysis techniques consist of several stages. First, researchers identified the data, this was done to find facial expressions contained in the movie Toy Story 4. RESULTS & DISCUSSION This section explains the research findings regarding the six basic types of facial expressions according to Ekman . which have been studied on the character Woody in the film Toy Story 4. The sad expression in Toy Story 4 is not just an animation but is a powerful tool for conveying deep emotional messages. Through the sad expression of the woody character, the audience is invited to feel various emotions and reflect on the meaning of life. From research on the film, there are expressions of surprise, sad, happy, scared, angry, and disgust in the film Toy Story 4 and the following are details of the meaning of the face expressions. Surprise expression The meaning of Woody's expression in the film Toy Story 4 shows several expressions obtained in this film. The total expression of surprise obtained is only 8 scenes which means The meaning in this expression describes Woody's face expression which can be seen from the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth. Eyebrows arch up to create wrinkles on the The eyes are wide open, characterized by changes in the upper and lower eyelids. Sometimes surprise is followed by an open mouth. Two parts of the face are key when someone feels sad. These parts are the eyebrows and eyelids. This film shows changes in the eyebrows and eyelids with a neutral mouth position when Woody hugs Buzz. Peirce's theory in expressing the meaning of sadness in the film Toy Story 4 means feelings that arise from someone understanding the role or meaning itself. Happy expression Woody's happy expression in this film has 13 scenes which means 27. 08% of the film, one of the scenes depicts the happy expression when Woody reunites with Bo, who has been separated for so long, as seen in Woody's expression, looks at Bo very happily, he raises his mouth . and he shows that he is very happy. The happy expression expressed means Woody's happiness after reuniting with Bo, who was separated for a long time. Peirce's theory in expressing the meaning of happiness or joy felt by Woody in the film Toy Story 4 means the feeling that arises from someone in understanding the role or meaning itself. Scared expression The scared expression in this film there are 8 scenes means 16. 67% of the scared scenes in this film, this expresses Woody's scared when he wants to save Forky who is being held captive by Gebby and suddenly Woody is shocked by Boson who suddenly appears in front of Woody which makes him is scared. This expression can be seen in changes in the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth. Eyebrows appear to rise in a straight position. The inner corners of the eyebrows approach each other until horizontal wrinkles appear on the Just like when surprised, changes can also be seen in the eyes that open. In Peirce's theory, this expression of fear shows that the meaning of the theory in question is an object, which means showing something, referring to signs usually found in thoughts in the human brain that are real. Angry Expression In the angry expressions in this film, there are 5 scenes with 10. 41% angry expressions expressed by Woody in this film. In one of the scenes. Woody wants to go back to save Foorky but is held back by Bo because he is being held, which is very dangerous and it can be seen that Woody is very angry with Bo because of Woody. being detained by Bo and his friends is characterized by a serious face and sharp gaze, visible from the recognizable expressions of the eyebrows, eyelids, and lips. Disgusted expression The disgusted expression in this film shows that there is only 1 disgusted scene in this film which means that only 2. 08% of disgusted expressions are in this film, in one of the scenes Woody meets Mr. Duke for the first time and Mr. Duke is very arrogant and a lot Woody's style and seeing Mr. Duke as very strange is what makes Woody feel disgusted when he sees Mr. Duke looking at Woody's expression, whose eyebrows are lowered to affect the upper eyelids while the lower eyelids rise due to the cheeks being pushed upwards. So the meaning of this expression shows that Woody doesn't like seeing Mr Duke's behavior, which is very arrogant and has a lot of poses. In Peirce's theory, this expression of disgust shows that the meaning of the theory in question is an object, which means showing something, referring to signs usually found in thoughts in the human brain that are real. CONCLUSION Based on the results of the research, the researcher managed to identify 48 total face expression data from 6 basic expressions by Ekman . namely surprised, scared, happy, angry, sad, and disgusted in the film Toy Story 4 which focuses on the main character. Woody. This research also makes a significant contribution to the field of semiotics by examining how visual signs . ace expression. are used to convey meaning in a film work. This research is a good first step in understanding the complexity of face expressions in animated films.
