ABSTRACT The objective of the research was to find out how studentsAo listening skills are through English songs, especially at Engilsh Department FKIP UNES Padang of the Second Semester Year 2022-2023. Song is a piece of music with words that is sung. Song is also a great language package that bundles culture, vocabulary, listening, grammar and a host of other language skills in just a few rhymes. The research method was the descriptive method. The population of the research were 17 students of the English Department second-semester FKIP UNES Padang. The sampling technique used a total random sample, and because of that, all second-semester students were taken as research samples. The research instrument was the listening Scores of students' listening skills will be determined through tests. This data collection technique is carried out by giving each student the opportunity to listen to a song and answer it, while the data analysis technique is carried out using a listening indicator. Data analysis also showed that on average, 3 out of 17 students were very good . ,64%), 5 out of 17 students were good . ,41%), 4 out of 17 students had enough . ,52%), 2 out of 17 students had less . ,76%), and 3 out of 17 students had very little . ,64%). Descriptive design from a second step of research the first being explanatory design thus, sometimes, research design is formulated through explanatory design and to test the research design, description design is formulated (Akhtar, 2016:. In short, descriptive research was subject with the whole aspect that could be studied and counted. Population and Sample Population is the whole of concern in the research. There are students of the second semester English Department of FKIP UNES Padang 2023 as the population of this research. The source of the population is from the data of FKIP UNES Padang. Sampel used total sampling Total sampling (Sugiyono, 2007: . , the total sampling is a technique to collect the data which is the total number sample is similar with the total population since there were 17 students in Second Semester of the English Department of FKIP UNES Padang 2023, the researchers chose all populations to be the sample for this Instrumentation The instrument of this research was a listening test. The scores of students' listening skills were determined through tests. In this research, the researcher gave missing song lyrics to the students. The students listened to the song being played by the researcher. Then, the students immediately filled in the blank song lyrics that the researcher had provided. Januari 2025 Technique of Collecting Data In collecting data, the researcher will do some steps bellow . First, researcher gave test in the form of missing lyrics. Second researcher asked the studentsAo to listen the song ask the missing lyric. Thirth, researcher played the song twice. After that, the researcher collected the studentsAo answer sheet. Technique of Analyzing Data In analyzing data, the researcher will do some steps bellow . Firts, reseacher analyzed the data of listening test. Second, reseacher counted the data. Thirth, researcher gave the score to the test. If the students' got the right answer, the score was 5. And if the students' got the wrong answer, the score was 0. Students' listening skills were tested based on the English song test. Then this becomes the basis for researchers to measure the extent of students' listening skills, especially in listening to English songs, while the scores are added up from the combined average scores of researchers and lecturers. After completing the research in the second semester of FKIP Unes Padang, the researcher found that the students were good at listening to English. this was evidenced by the students' scores, which showed their ability to have an average score of 74,26, researcher concluded that the second semester students' listening skills were good. Based on the calculation of the listening skills score, the highest score is 3 students and the lowest is 3 students . ee Appendix . Based on the researcher's analysis of students' listening skills, especially in the case of English songs, it was found that when listening to songs, there were 3 students who had good abilities. these results were based on their ability to listen and answer the unfilled parts of the song using clear sentences. Then there are 3 students who have very good English listening skills, 5 students who have good English listening skills, 4 students who have enough English listening skills, 2 students who have less English listening skills, and 3 students who have very less English listening skills. Based on this amount of data, students in the second semester English department at UNES Padang can represent almost the entire number of people who have good English listening skills. The Students' ability to listen to English was good. this is seen when researchers test their speaking ability through an English song test. There are also those who get the lowest score because when listening to the song, they do not concentrate on the words they hear, and then the wrong words are heard that are almost similar or incorrect writing. in general, these things are related to each other when they listen to it, like the answers that the word AuforAy should be made Aufour. Of all that, there are also several factors that cause students to lack listening skills, namely: students are more interested in live interaction activities. students are also lazy and rarely practice listening in English. and another reason is that students are less confident when trying to listen to their friends. Dicussion According to the findings researcher found that students' listening skills in English were This was tested when they carried out a test using English songs. Based on these aspects, the average score of the second semester English department. FKIP Unes Padang year 2023, was 74,26. There are 3 students who have very good English listening skills, 5 students who have good English listening skills, 4 students who have enough English listening skills, 2 students who have less English listening skills, and 3 students who have very less English listening skills. It is necessary to make efforts to maintain and increase student learning motivation. CONCLUSION Based on the results of the study, the researchers found that there were several students who were still unable to listen to English properly. The average ability of the second semester of the English Department at FKIP UNES Padang was relatively good. This was evidenced by the data analysis method based on direct listening tests. The results of this study indicate that the average score of students majoring in English in the second semester of FKIP UNES PADANG is 74. 26, which means that this number places students in the category of being able to listen to good English.
