Direct effects are through mechanical force while indirect effects are through microenvironment including hormonal factors, cytokines, and vitamins. Mechanical force applied to bone tissue forms endogenous signals captured by the mechanosensory system that will be captured by osteocytes and then transform into biochemical signals that regulate bone remodeling.
