Keywords: Laravel framework, information system, sales management, waterfall model, web application Introduction In the contemporary era of digital transformation, information and communication technology has become an inseparable part of human activity, significantly influencing various sectors, especially commerce and business. The advancement of the internet and software engineering has enabled businesses to shift from traditional manual operations to automated systems that improve efficiency, accuracy, and speed in handling data (Ogunwole et al. , 2022. Ajiga et al. This shift is not merely a technological upgrade but a necessity for organizations seeking to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. Information systems have emerged as crucial tools in supporting daily business operations and managerial decisionmaking. They provide structured methods for collecting, processing, storing, and distributing data to users and According to Sunarjo et al. , an information system acts as an integrated mechanism that transforms raw data into valuable insights, enabling companies to make strategic and timely decisions. The success of a business today depends largely on how effectively it integrates such systems into its operational workflow. Despite the advantages of digital transformation, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SME. in Indonesia still rely on manual data management practices. These manual approaches such as recording sales in notebooks or spreadsheets are highly susceptible to errors, duplication, and data loss. Inaccurate stock records, delayed reporting, and inefficiencies in data retrieval are common problems that disrupt the overall performance of a business. Without a reliable information system, entrepreneurs often experience difficulties in monitoring transactions, evaluating sales, and planning restocking activities. Grosir Uncu Aris, a wholesale business located in Parak Gadang. Jorong Batu Palano, represents one of the many enterprises facing these challenges. The store supplies essential goods and household products to local customers but Junaidi, et al. / International Journal of Research in Community Service. Vol. No. 4, pp. 213-221, 2025 still manages its operations manually. Sales transactions, stock recording, and report generation are performed without digital support, leading to inefficiencies and frequent human errors. For instance, inaccurate stock counts often result in over-ordering or shortages of specific products. Furthermore, the lack of automated reporting makes it difficult for the owner to track sales performance and make data-driven business decisions. Such inefficiencies not only hamper day-to-day operations but also impact long-term competitiveness. When business data is not accessible accurately and in real time, identifying sales trends or forecasting inventory needs becomes This problem is even more pronounced in an era where digital systems dominate nearly every commercial Businesses that fail to adopt information systems risk losing operational agility and customer trust. Therefore, there is an urgent need for SMEs like Grosir Uncu Aris to adopt a web-based system that ensures accuracy, transparency, and efficiency. A web-based sales information system serves as a comprehensive solution for integrating sales, inventory, and reporting processes in one centralized platform. This system allows data to be stored and updated automatically, reducing reliance on manual record-keeping. According to Suhirman et al. , a web-based system provides seamless data flow, improves communication between users, and enhances the accuracy of sales documentation. This system also allows users to access information remotely through any internet-connected device, which is crucial in today's interconnected business environment. To build such a system efficiently, the Laravel framework offers a reliable foundation for web application Laravel follows a Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture, which separates the logic, interface, and data management layers, ensuring modularity and scalability. Jain . emphasized that Laravel's built-in features, such as the Eloquent ORM for database operations, authentication mechanisms, and the Blade template engine, significantly reduce development time while maintaining high levels of security and flexibility. These characteristics make Laravel well-suited for small business applications that require robustness and ease of maintenance. Several researchers have demonstrated Laravel's effectiveness in improving digital business management. Misahuaman et al. designed a web-based inventory system using Laravel MVC that improved stock accuracy and eliminated redundant data entry. Similarly. Rohaimudin et al. implemented a Laravel-based sales platform integrated with Laravel to support real-time order processing and user management. Furthermore. Dhage et al. examined the efficiency of the Laravel architecture in a transactional data system, highlighting its scalability and security These studies confirm that Laravel provides an efficient framework for building reliable sales and inventory systems in small businesses. In this study, the Waterfall model was adopted as the system development methodology. The model's sequential structure, consisting of planning, analysis, design, implementation, and testing, ensures a disciplined approach to system According to Thesing et al. , the Waterfall approach minimizes errors through early documentation and validation at each stage, making it suitable for projects with clear requirements such as this one. By following this model, the developed system ensures that user needs are thoroughly analyzed before implementation, resulting in a product that aligns with functional and operational expectations. Therefore, this study aims to design and implement a website-based sales information system using the Laravel framework to improve operational efficiency, sales and inventory data accuracy, and decision-making processes at Grosir Uncu Aris. This study is expected to contribute to the digitalization of SMEs by providing an adaptive and scalable framework for business transformation, aligning local business practices with the demands of the evolving digital economy. Literature Review Information Systems in the Digital Business Context Information systems (IS) play a vital role in the transformation of business processes, particularly in facilitating efficiency and accuracy in data management. As defined by Sunarjo et al. , an information system is an integrated framework that collects, processes, stores, and distributes data to support organizational operations and decisionmaking. The implementation of IS in business allows organizations to automate manual processes, minimize data loss, and improve coordination between departments. In the digital business environment. IS serves as a strategic tool that connects operational, tactical, and analytical Ogunwole et al. argue that technology-based information systems enable businesses to make decisions based on real-time data analytics, which enhances productivity and customer responsiveness. Therefore, businesses that implement information systems are better positioned to compete in fast-changing markets, where data accuracy and speed of decision-making are critical success factors. Web-Based Sales Information Systems The rapid growth of internet technology has transformed traditional sales management into a web-based digital According to Suhirman et al. , web-based sales information systems provide a platform that allows businesses to manage transactions, stock, and customer interactions seamlessly in real-time. Such systems increase operational transparency and reduce the dependence on paper-based documentation. Junaidi, et al. / International Journal of Research in Community Service. Vol. No. 4, pp. 213-221, 2025 For small and medium enterprises (SME. , the adoption of web-based systems enhances accessibility and mobility. Jain . explains that with a web-based sales system, entrepreneurs can access business data from any device with an internet connection, facilitating continuous monitoring and decision-making. Moreover, automation through web applications reduces human error, accelerates transaction processing, and simplifies report generation, which is essential for small enterprises like Grosir Uncu Aris that handle large product inventories and frequent transactions. Laravel Framework for Web Application Development Laravel is one of the most widely used frameworks for building robust, scalable, and secure web applications. Jain . states that LaravelAos Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture separates system logic from user interface and database management, ensuring modularity and maintainability. The framework includes features such as Eloquent ORM. Blade templating engine, and migrations, which simplify the development process and improve database Rohaimudin et al. emphasize that Laravel provides built-in tools for authentication, routing, and data validation, making it ideal for information systems that require user-level security and controlled data access. The framework also supports object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, which enhance readability and scalability. This is particularly beneficial for SMEs that require reliable and easily maintainable systems. Additionally. LaravelAos large open-source community and extensive documentation make it a preferred choice for developers seeking efficient project deployment and continuous improvement. Misahuaman et al. proved this by designing a Laravel-based inventory system that successfully minimized redundancy and improved overall data Software Development Method: The Waterfall Model The Waterfall model is a traditional yet structured approach to system development, characterized by its sequential stages planning, analysis, design, implementation, and testing. Thesing et al. explain that the Waterfall model allows each phase to be completed and verified before progressing to the next, ensuring system stability and traceability. For small and medium projects such as sales information systems, the Waterfall model provides clarity in documentation and control over system requirements. This approach allows developers to systematically address potential issues at each stage of development, reducing risk and improving reliability. By applying this model to the Laravel-based system for Grosir Uncu Aris, the research ensures that both user and functional requirements are thoroughly addressed before deployment. Related Studies Several studies have explored the implementation of Laravel-based web systems in different business contexts. Misahuaman et al. developed a Laravel MVC-based inventory system that improved data accuracy and eliminated redundancy in product management. Rohaimudin et al. implemented a Laravel-powered online sales platform that enhanced real-time order tracking and simplified customer data management. Dhage et al. focused on transaction data systems using Laravel architecture, proving that the frameworkAos scalability and modularity improved system performance. These studies collectively demonstrate that Laravel offers a flexible and reliable foundation for developing digital business systems. However, most prior research focuses on general retail or service sectors. This study differentiates itself by designing and implementing a web-based sales information system specifically tailored to a wholesale environment, addressing the challenges of stock accuracy, sales tracking, and operational efficiency in SMEs like Grosir Uncu Aris. Materials and Methods Object and Location of the Study This research was conducted at Grosir Uncu Aris, a wholesale business located in Parak Gadang. Jorong Batu Palano, which focuses on the sale of household goods and daily necessities. The store was selected as the research object because its operational activities, such as transaction processing, stock management, and reporting, were still performed manually without digital support. The manual system led to several recurring problems, including difficulties in data retrieval, duplicate entries, inaccurate stock records, and delayed report generation. These inefficiencies affected both the effectiveness and productivity of the business. By choosing Grosir Uncu Aris as the case study, this research aimed to design a web-based sales information system that automates the business processes and improves data accuracy and The store represents a typical small and medium enterprise (SME) in Indonesia that requires digital transformation to enhance its competitiveness and operational efficiency in the modern business environment. Junaidi, et al. / International Journal of Research in Community Service. Vol. No. 4, pp. 213-221, 2025 Research Method This study used a descriptive development approach employing the Waterfall model as its main software development method. The Waterfall model was selected because it provides a structured and sequential framework, suitable for projects where the system requirements are clearly defined from the beginning. According to Thesing et al. , the Waterfall model minimizes the risk of project failure by ensuring that each phase of development is thoroughly completed before moving to the next. The stages in the Waterfall model include requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and deployment. During the requirement analysis stage, the researcher conducted observations and interviews with the store owner and employees to identify key issues in the manual sales process. The system requirements were then formulated to include features for product management, transaction handling, and sales reporting. In the design stage, system blueprints were created using Unified Modeling Language (UML) to describe workflows and interactions between users and system components. The design also involved developing database schemas and determining relationships between tables to ensure that data were stored efficiently. At the implementation stage, the system was developed using the Laravel framework integrated with a MySQL The Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture was applied to separate system logic from user interface components, ensuring that the code structure remained modular and easy to maintain. After implementation, system testing was performed using white-box and black-box testing methods to verify system logic and ensure that the application met the functional requirements. Once the testing stage was complete, the system was deployed in the operational environment of Grosir Uncu Aris, followed by user evaluation to assess its performance and usability. Data Collection Techniques The data collection process in this research involved three primary techniques: observation, interviews, and Observation was carried out directly at Grosir Uncu Aris to understand the existing workflow and identify problems in manual operations. Through this approach, the researcher observed how transaction data were recorded and analyzed the time and effort required in each process. Interviews were then conducted with the store owner and employees to collect qualitative data regarding their expectations, challenges, and specific needs related to The interviews helped determine user requirements, including the preferred system features and reporting The documentation method complemented the two previous techniques by analyzing existing business records such as invoices, stock lists, and handwritten transaction books. These documents were used as references for designing the database structure and ensuring that the digital system aligned with the actual business workflow. Combining these three methods allowed the researcher to gather comprehensive data from multiple perspectives both operational and managerial resulting in a system design that accurately reflected real user needs. System Design Tools The system design process employed several analytical and modeling tools to ensure precision and clarity in representing the systemAos functionality. Unified Modeling Language (UML) served as the main modeling tool, consisting of use case diagrams to illustrate user interactions, activity diagrams to depict workflows, class diagrams to describe data structures, and sequence diagrams to visualize process sequences. These diagrams helped both developers and users to understand how each system component interacted within the application. For database design. MySQL Workbench was utilized to construct entity-relationship diagrams (ERD) and to optimize table normalization for efficient data management. The web application itself was built using the Laravel 10. framework, supported by the PHP 8. x programming language, and operated in the Laragon environment as a local web The Visual Studio Code text editor was used for coding, debugging, and project version management, while Google Chrome functioned as the primary browser for testing and interface evaluation. The integration of these tools ensured that the system development process remained consistent, maintainable, and in accordance with modern software engineering standards. Implementation Environment The implementation phase was carried out in a development environment with technical specifications designed to support the Laravel-based system effectively. The computer used was equipped with Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, an Intel Core i5 . th Ge. processor, and 8 GB of RAM to ensure stable performance during the development and testing The Laragon platform provided the Apache web server. PHP runtime, and MySQL database management system needed for local deployment. The system was tested across multiple browsers, including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, to verify its responsiveness and compatibility. This environment ensured that the system could be developed, tested, and executed without performance bottlenecks. Furthermore, it provided a reliable configuration for simulating real-world usage conditions. The use of open-source Junaidi, et al. / International Journal of Research in Community Service. Vol. No. 4, pp. 213-221, 2025 technologies such as Laravel and MySQL also minimized development costs while maintaining scalability, making the system feasible for long-term use in small business environments like Grosir Uncu Aris. Research Flow The research process adopted the Waterfall model, a linear and structured approach that ensures each development stage is completed sequentially. This framework provided a clear and traceable workflow throughout the system design and implementation process. The flow of research activities is summarized in Figure 1, which illustrates the progression from identifying problems to system evaluation. Figure 1: Research flow As shown in Figure 1, the research began with Problem Identification, where issues in manual data recording and reporting at Grosir Uncu Aris were observed. Next, during Requirement Analysis, system needs were defined through interviews, observations, and documentation to understand user expectations and operational requirements. The System Design phase involved creating UML diagrams and database structures that served as blueprints for development. In the Implementation phase, the system was developed using the Laravel framework with a MySQL database following the Model-View-Controller (MVC) structure. After coding, the system underwent Testing, combining whitebox testing for logic validation and black-box testing to ensure functionality matched user needs. Finally, in the Deployment and Evaluation phase, the system was installed in the storeAos operational environment and tested by users to assess its effectiveness and ease of use. Results and Discussion System Interface Results Implementation results show that the designed system effectively automates sales and reporting processes previously handled manually. The entire interface was developed using the Laravel Blade template, focusing on functionality, simplicity, and ease of navigation to enhance the user experience. The results of each key feature can be seen in Figures 2-6 below. Junaidi, et al. / International Journal of Research in Community Service.
