Abstract - This study aims to analyze the role of English reading skills in understanding international Islamic economics literature. The rapid development of Islamic economics globally has resulted in the increasing number of academic publications written in English. Consequently, students of Sharia Economics are required to possess adequate English reading skills to access and comprehend international references. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of Sharia Economics students who had completed English courses, with samples selected through purposive Data were collected using a reading comprehension test and a questionnaire measuring studentsAo understanding of international Islamic economics literature. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that English reading skills have a positive and significant role in studentsAo understanding of international Islamic economics literature. These findings suggest that strengthening English reading skills is essential to enhance studentsAo academic competence and global insight in Islamic economics. Keywords: English reading skills. INTRODUCTION The global development of Islamic economics has been accompanied by a significant increase in academic publications, including journals, books, and research reports written predominantly in English. These international publications play a crucial role in shaping theories, policies, and practices of Islamic economics worldwide. Therefore, the ability to access and understand international literature is an essential competency for students of Sharia Economics. Among the four English language skills, reading is considered the most important skill in academic contexts. Reading skills enable students to comprehend theories, research findings, and contemporary issues presented in academic texts. However, many Sharia Economics students face difficulties in understanding English academic texts due to limited vocabulary mastery, unfamiliarity with technical terms, and inadequate reading strategies. Limited English reading ability can restrict studentsAo access to international Islamic economics literature, which in turn affects the quality of academic understanding and research output. Previous studies indicate that strong reading skills contribute significantly to academic success and critical thinking development. Therefore, examining the role of English reading skills in understanding international Islamic economics literature is essential to support curriculum development and learning strategies in Sharia Economics programs. RESEARCH METHODS This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of students from the Sharia Economics Study Program who had completed English language courses. A purposive sampling technique was used to select respondents based on their academic background and course completion. The research instruments included an English reading comprehension test and a structured questionnaire designed to measure studentsAo understanding of international Islamic economics literature. The collected data were tested for validity and reliability prior to analysis. Simple linear regression analysis was applied to determine the role of English reading skills in understanding international Islamic economics literature. RESULT AND DISCUSSION Result The results of the regression analysis show that English reading skills have a positive and significant effect on studentsAo understanding of international Islamic economics Students with higher reading proficiency demonstrated better comprehension of academic texts, concepts, and terminologies related to Islamic economics. The findings of this study confirm that English reading skills play a vital role in enhancing studentsAo understanding of international Islamic economics literature. This result is consistent with previous studies suggesting that reading proficiency is a key factor in academic achievement and knowledge acquisition (Hutchinson & Waters, 1. In the context of Islamic economics, reading skills enable students to engage with global scholarly discourse, access reputable international journals, and develop broader perspectives. Therefore, strengthening English reading instruction, particularly through English for Specific Purposes (ESP) approaches, is essential to support studentsAo academic development and global competitiveness. Demikian pula dengan pemahaman terhadap literatur ekonomi syariah internasional yang menunjukkan kecenderungan tinggi, sehingga mencerminkan kesiapan akademik mahasiswa dalam mengakses sumber rujukan internasional. Berdasarkan Tabel 2 dan Tabel 3, kemampuan reading bahasa Inggris berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap pemahaman literatur ekonomi syariah internasional. SUGGESTIONS Sharia Economics study programs are encouraged to strengthen English reading instruction by integrating reading-focused ESP materials related to Islamic economics. Future research may employ experimental methods or qualitative approaches to further explore effective strategies for improving studentsAo reading comprehension of international literature. REFERENCES
